FOOTBALL EUROPE: PSV press on with point against Ajax
/noticias.info/ PSV Eindhoven drew 0-0 with AFC Ajax to maintain their four-point lead over their title rivals at the Dutch Eredivisie summit.
Ajax possession
Ajax coach Adrie Koster had promised to exert pressure on PSV from the off, but despite enjoying a lot of possession, the visitors never really looked like turning that into goals. Luis Suárez's offside strike after 38 minutes and a later effort saved by Heurelho Gomes were the closest Ajax came before the break as PSV sat back.
Méndez moment
PSV were more of an attacking force in the second half but Edison Méndez's composure deserted him after he had dribbled through the Ajax defence, before Danny Koevermans headed just over. In the closing stages Ajax could have stolen a winner when Johnny Heitinga hit the post and Klaas Jan Huntelaar headed wide, much to the latter's disappointment.
Huntelaar disappointed
"This is a real pity," said Huntelaar. "We came to win but did not manage it. In the second half I think we should have taken more risks. When you want to win, you have to force it a bit more. It's not decided yet, but we have lost an opportunity and that's a shame."
Vergoossen modest
With five games to go, PSV are still on track to claim their fourth successive title although coach Sef Vergoossen refused to look too far ahead, saying: "Looking at the result, it is in favour of PSV. We are in a good position, but the championship race is not over yet." notas_de_prensa_archivo
