FOOTBALL EUROPE: Marseille fall to giant-killing Carquefou

/noticias.info/ The amateurs of USJDA Carquefou continued their giant-killing run in the French Cup by beating Olympique de Marseille 1-0 to claim their biggest scalp yet - and with it, a place in the quarter-finals.

N'Doye winner
Carquefou lie 14th in the 16-team CFA2 - the fifth tier of French football - but Marseille, fourth in Ligue 1, had no answer to Idrissa N'Doye's early goal and joined AS Nancy-Lorraine in falling to defeat against the minnows from the Nantes suburbs. N'Doye struck after just seven minutes - beating Cédric Carrasso after being put clear by Sébastien Le Paih - and despite good opportunities for Djibril Cissé and Samir Nasri, Marseille could not find a way past inspired home goalkeeper Alban Joinel. "I did not believe we could work like that for 90 minutes," said home coach Denis Renaud.

Bordeaux need extra time
Elsewhere FC Girondins de Bordeaux, Ligue 1's second-placed team, beat LOSC Lille Métropole 2-0 after extra time to keep their hopes of a league-and-cup double alive. Fernando Menegazzo broke the deadlock in the 95th minute and ten minutes later substitute David Bellion headed the second from a Franck Jurietti cross.

Metz march on
FC Metz, bottom of Ligue 1, won 1-0 at FC Lorient through a 64th-minute goal from Vincent Bessat while Ligue 2 side Amiens SC needed a penalty shoot-out to get the better of third-tier AC Arlésienne, prevailing 4-2 on spot-kicks following a 1-1 draw. Olympique Lyonnais, CS Sedan-Ardennes, Dijon FCO and Paris Saint-Germain FC are the four other names in the hat for the quarter-final draw on Sunday, with the matches scheduled for 15 and 16 April. notas_de_prensa_archivo
