CHELSEA FC: NICO GUNNING FOR ARSENAL
/noticias.info/ Nicolas Anelka could yet be fit to play against Arsenal on Sunday, and if he does feature, he is hoping to add to his impressive goal tally against his former side.
Anelka arrived at Highbury as a 17-year-old in early 1997, but since leaving in 1999, has scored six times in eight Premier League appearances against Arsene Wenger's men.
Despite this impressive stat, the 29-year-old Frenchman insisted it is merely a coincidence.
'There is no secret, I am just lucky to score against them,' he explained. 'That is it, I'm not thinking when I play against them I have to score. If we have a chance to win it is good, and even better if I score.'
Although goals came freely against the Gunners during his spells with Liverpool, Manchester City and then Bolton, he was on the winning side in Premier League fixtures just once, in a 3-1 win at the Reebok Stadium last season.
If he does make the game, the forward is hopeful that the tide will start to turn on Sunday.
'Yes, every time I played against them it was for a smaller club, so it was very difficult to beat Arsenal because it is a big club with big players, who played well as a team.
'But I managed to win once, so Sunday is an opportunity for two. It is an opportunity for Chelsea, and because of what happened in the week we have to win the game. Everybody knows we have to win.'
One man standing in our way is former Chelsea defender William Gallas, now captain at the Emirates. Anelka knows him well, and what to expect should Gallas be marking him on Sunday.
'I know him very well because I have played with him in the national team, and I have known him since we were kids because we were together in the Clarefontaine football school,' Anelka explained.
'He is a good defender and if I play it is going to be a big challenge.'
A win on Sunday would take us above Arsenal into second place in the Premier League table, with leaders Manchester United still to visit Stamford Bridge.
You can follow the game live on Chelsea Plus, which features commentary from Real Radio London. Anelka is 23/10 to continue his good form against Arsenal, and score in the game. notas_de_prensa_archivo
