CHELSEA FC: AVRAM: WILL TO WIN

/noticias.info/ Avram Grant believes we have the strength in depth to beat Arsenal tomorrow, and has also been responding to suggestions in the press after our 4-4 draw at Tottenham in midweek.

If we do come out on top against the Gunners at Stamford Bridge, it will see us leapfrog them into second place behind Manchester United, with the possibility of being within two points of the Red Devils, should they lose at home to Liverpool.

Weighing up the experience of his side against the youth that Arsene Wenger possesses, Grant insists we have enough to take all three points.

'If you read all the psychological ideas, they don't know what is better, when you are hungry or if you have experience,' he began.

'We have experience, but we need to use it on the pitch. We have very good players so it will be a tight competition. In football it is a matter of quality and mental strength. I think we have the quality and the mental strength to win this game.'

After it was put to him that Chelsea would need to beat both Arsenal and Manchester United to take the title, Grant remained philosophical.

'I don't know, it depends on the result of Liverpool v Manchester United and other results before the end of the season. We cannot know what will happen,' he said.

'We know we came into a better position than other stages of the league, we will see at the end of the season. Sometimes a point is a good result, but you don't know it, so we will do everything to win.

'Arsenal can win any game, but even top clubs cannot win all the games. Arsenal played good football in the last years and I like the vision of the club, but we are concentrating on what we need to do.'

A win would certainly be welcome, after we dropped points at White Hart Lane on Wednesday in a game packed with drama.

Despite the disappointment of conceding a late equaliser, Grant refused to be downcast, and looked at the results of our rivals at Tottenham, since Juande Ramos took charge in October.

'Playing at Tottenham, where one of the teams lost by five, and one of the others equalised in the last moment, Manchester United, we played a fantastic game, fantastic football, and scored four goals in an open game,' Grant said, before adding: 'I cannot say to you I was happy at Tottenham, I was happy with the football but not the point.'

The manager also defended his tactics on the night, that saw Alex introduced as a fifth defender to deal with Tottenham's attacking threat, instead pointing to the lax defending at set pieces.

'I think the tactics were good, because we did this three times and played good football. We came from 3-3 to 4-3 with the same tactics as before but sometimes you have to help the team.'

'We came with one more defender because they played direct with a lot of strikers when we were leading the game, and created two chances before.. The third goal was again from a free-kick and the fourth goal was a very good assist from the back of Carvalho. I think it was the right change.' notas_de_prensa_archivo
