LIVERPOOL FC: PAISLEY APPEAL GATHERS PACE
Hopes of seeing a permanent tribute to Bob Paisley erected in his birthplace near Sunderland continue to gather pace as the group behind the idea urge fellow Reds to continue to support them.
/noticias.info/ Members of the Bob Paisley Memorial Appeal are aiming to raise £5000 over the coming months in order to fund the erection of a fitting statue of the former Reds boss in his home town of Hetton-le-Hole.
And organisers of the Appeal plan to visit Bob's widow, Jessie, to present her with a scrapbook detailing all the efforts being made to ensure that, the manager who won 19 major honours in just nine years in the Anfield dugout, is suitably honoured.
The Appeal group formed after a number of Liverpool fans realised that Bob had yet to be immortalised in the same way as the likes of Bill Shankly, and their efforts are now being supported by the people of Hetton-le-Hole and its mayor, Tony Wilkinson.
Appeal organiser Ian Graves said: “While predecessor Bill Shankly has been honoured in his hometown of Glenbuck, the only tribute to Paisley in Hetton-le-Hole is a small plaque.
"In 52 years of loyal service to Liverpool Football Club, Bob was a player, physiotherapist, coach, manager and director. His achievements will surely be unsurpassed in the game. In short, Bob Paisley is a world football great.
“We approached the Paisley family with our idea to construct a memorial.
“They were delighted with the idea and would love to see this become a reality.
“We have since met with stonemasons and construction firms in the area. The granite has been ordered and will be with us in plenty of time for the summer.
“The next step is to liaise with the construction companies we are talking to in the north east and we aim to do that very soon.”
