Fernando starts seventh at Sepang
Penalty to both McLaren makes him advance two positions-
/noticias.info/ Finally, the meritorious ninth position achieved by Fernando Alonso in the qualifying to GP of Malaysia had an extra award because in late afternoon at Sepang, marshalls’ decision stated that McLaren’s pilots should go back five positions each due to the manoeuvres in the qualifying.
As expected beforehand qualifying wasn’t easy to Fernando who had to try soft tyres in Q1 and Q2, two first parts of the qualifying which allow the right to run the definitive Q3. Fernando’s best time in the first part was 1.35.983 which put him in the 12º position and gave him the right to participate in Q2. Next hurdle looked as difficult because he had to be among the first ten. He could lower his time to 1.35.140 and he was just in the limit as he finished tenth.
In the definitive Q3 he could run faster than Timo Glock and remained ninth setting a best time of 1.38.450 whilst the Pole Position was for Massa at 1.35.748. Later on he would be seventh. When finishing, Fernando told us:
Knowing we were not going to choose any of the good positions in the qualifying in Q3 we loaded much fuel. So we should not be afraid of those coming eleventh and on.”
“We knew it was going to be complicated entering in Q3. In Australia we made some mistakes and we didn’t make it, so here we tried to improve and resulted well. We were among the first ten and then in Q3 depends upon the fuel load. If we had less load we could fight for being between seventh or eighth. The objective was entering in Q3 and we achieved it. In the race is entering in the scoring and if all goes well we will achieved it also.”
“It always helps starting from the clean side of the track although it must be said that in this circuit, after the last turn we go too much to the right and this makes the usually dirty side in other circuits becomes cleaner.”
“It is true that some cars bothered me at the final of the definitive session but I don’t want to talk about it. Marshalls should do and determine what exactly happened.”
