A HARD DAY’S NIGHT

A HARD DAY’S NIGHT

/noticias.info/ After David Coulthard’s practice crash, the Red Bull Racing lads were burning the midnight oil on Friday night.
Not just to repair and prepare his car and that of Mark Webber, but also for the engineers here at the track and staff back home in Milton Keynes to prepare a report to submit to the FIA, in order to prove the RB4 car was safe to race, in terms of the strength of the suspension. (Article 2.3 of the technical regulations says that the "stewards of the meeting may exclude a vehicle whose construction is deemed to be dangerous.")
On Saturday morning the Stewards then issued the following statement: "Having received a written report from Red Bull Racing and the verbal report from the Technical Delegate who has conducted a visual check of the front suspension of the Red Bull car, the Stewards at this stage intend to take no action under Art 2.3 of the 2008 Formula One Technical Regulations. This matter will however, be kept under review during the event."
Of course, this sent the media into a frenzy of interest and if you reckon there is no such thing as bad publicity then we were certainly making all the headlines. For Christian Horner’s and Adrian Newey’s explanation of the facts, rather than the hysteria, see today’s press release download.
In a taste of what might be to come for tomorrow’s race, the wind picked up towards the end of today’s session and there were even a few drops of rain. More of both is expected to arrive tomorrow and with another late start – thank you Mr. Ecclestone for giving us another hour in bed – a wet track might cause some real chaos. It’s interesting to see that while during winter testing,
ll the macho F1 drivers said the lack of electronic driver aids did not make their life so different, a large number of them started complaining the cars were undriveable after having trouble keeping it on the black stuff in Melbourne. A first wet race this early in the season will really sort the men from the boys. As for today’s qualifying, the result means that, having made it into Q3, Mark starts on Row 4 in eighth spot, while David is on Row 6 in twelfth place. If the Ferrari duo has been complaining since Melbourne that they were struggling to be on the pace over the single flying lap required from Qualifying, they seem to have sorted out the problem here, as it’s an all-red front row with Felipe Massa a convincing half second ahead of reigning champion, Kimi Raikkonen. And here’s one to get the British press going hysterical – Heikki Kovalainen had he nerve to outqualify Saint Lewis on what is an all-McLaren second row. Row three sees the Toyota of Jarno Trulli just ahead of Robert Kubica in the BMW-Sauber. notas_de_prensa_archivo
