Ogilvy leads, Woods threatens again at WGC CA Championship
/noticias.info/ Australian Geoff Ogilvy held off the expected Tiger Woods challenge to lead by a shot after the second round of the WGC-CA Championships Thursday, while Retief Goosen and Tim Clark made a significant move.
Ogilvy, the 2006 U.S. Open champion, followed his seven-under-par 65 on Thursday with a bogey-free five-under 67 to top the leaderboard at 12-under-par 132.
Woods, looking once again in top form, collected two eagles in his round of 66 - the low round of the day - and finished with a putt of more than 23 feet for a birdie on the ninth hole.
It was a contrasting end to Thursday's round when Woods bogeyed the 18th.
"I was trying to make sure that I didn't drop any shots like I did on Thursday. You don't want to end a good round dropping a shot," said the world number one.
Looking for his 10th win in 11 tournaments, Woods eagled the par-five 12th by chipping in from the bunker and the first after a 329-yard drive off the tee followed by a superb second shot that landed less than seven feet from the hole.
Goosen, who began the second round in 35th place, collected five birdies, offset by bogeys at the fifth and notorious 18th for a 69 to vault to a tie for 10th alongside countryman Clark, who also carded a 69.
Trevor Immelman, the leading South African after round one, slipped to a tie for 46th with a 74 in Friday’s second round, while Louis Oosthuizen found some form to post a 72 and move to a tie for 58th with countryman Rory Sabbatini.
