WOMEN’S UNDER 17 CHAMPIONSHIP: Russia rally to thwart Iceland
/noticias.info/ A dramatic comeback gave Russia a superb start to UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship second qualifying round Group 4 while hosts Denmark and Finland played out a 0-0 draw.
Comeback
It seemed Iceland were heading to victory against the 2005 Women's U19 champions when they led 3-1 at half-time with goals from Berglind Björg Thorvaldsdóttir, Íris Ósk Valmundsdóttir and Arna Ómarsdóttir. But Russia turned the game after the break to win 4-3 and take the early lead in the group as the other match was scoreless.
Midweek fixtures
The group continues on Wednesday when Russia face Finland and Iceland play Denmark. Meanwhile, Group 1 begins on Tuesday as England meet the Czech Republic, hosting the mini-tournament, and the Netherlands take on neighbours Belgium. France claimed the first of four finals places on Sunday. notas_de_prensa_archivo
