WOMEN’S CUP: Benstiti talks up Lyon chances
/noticias.info/ "We can do it" was Olympique Lyonnais coach Farid Benstiti's standpoint after Sunday's 1-1 home draw against Umeå IK in the first leg of the UEFA Women's Cup semi-finals.
Nécib equaliser
The competition debutants attracted 12,575 fans, the second highest in UEFA Women's Cup history and a French record, to Stade de Gerland but fell behind on 58 minutes when Madelaine Edlund turned in after being set up by Marta. With 18 minutes left Louisa Necib levelled the scores, but it will be tough next Sunday for Lyon visiting a club who have won the competition twice and reached four finals. "I have mixed feelings," said coach Benstiti. "It's true that scoreline does not suit us but I appreciated the reaction of the girls after they conceded. One could have expected that they would crumble. They never did and found enough energy to come back. This leaves us lots of hope for the return leg."
Cold conditions
Lyon will be boosted for the trip to northern Sweden by the return of midfielder Sonia Bompastor from suspension, but the climate will be different to the mild conditions of the first leg. "The cold will be an additional enemy," said Benstiti. "Especially mentally. We will have to score over there but seeing the number of opportunities we created, we can do it I think." notas_de_prensa_archivo
