WOMEN’S CUP: Bardolino have 'nothing to lose'
/noticias.info/ ASD CF Bardolino Verona will need to overturn a 4-2 deficit at home 1. FFC Frankfurt on Saturday to reach the UEFA Women's Cup final but coach Renato Longega says the Italian champions have already had "a great adventure".
'Great result'
Two-time winners Frankfurt are aiming to reach a fourth final in seven editions and a pair of goals each by Birgit Prinz and Conny Pohlers put them in control of this tie, though Melanie Gabbiadini pulled one back with seven minutes to go to give Bardolino hope. "We did not have the best start and conceded two easy goals," Longega said. "We responded extremely well though, and created several chances to equalise after scoring our first goal [to make it 2-1]. Frankfurt are a great side and a great club but we have to believe that we can do it at the Bentegodi Stadium. We have nothing to lose. It would have been a great adventure regardless of the result in the return leg. We have already achieved a great result just being here."
Wunderlich blow
Frankfurt's hopes have been hit by midfielder Pia Wunderlich tearing cruciate ligaments in her left knee, ruling the German international out for six months. General manager Siegried Dietrich said "We are saddened and shocked that Pia Wunderlich has suffered another setback in her football career and wish her all the best for her recovery. The team of doctors at 1. FFC will discuss the upcoming operation with Pia Wunderlich." notas_de_prensa_archivo
