UNDER 17 CHAMPIONSHIP: Djurdjević hails U17 Serbia spirit
/noticias.info/ Serbia coach Dejan Djurdjević was a proud man after earning qualification for the UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
Team spirit
Wins against Slovakia and the Czech Republic on home soil in Elite round Group 4 meant a 1-1 draw with Sweden on Monday was enough to secure Serbia's place in the Turkey-hosted finals from 4-16 May. "Every coach always loves it when he has strong unit," Djurdjević said. "Here, we won first of all because we had brilliant squad, where individual ambitions came second. A year ago maybe some people lacked faith in us but we proved our class and did a great job. Of course, we still have some weaknesses, like any young team, but we are on the right path."
No promises
The draw for the finals is in Antalya on Thursday, but Djurdjević is making no promises for the tournament, in which hosts Turkey, France, the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland and holders Spain will also be present. "We will take it step by step," he said. "I never speak about the future, never make promises. The reason is simple; we must build our own house, our spirit, our future. For us, qualifying is great. A place among the top eight is already a success." notas_de_prensa_archivo
