UEFA EURO 2008: Allbäck keyed up for final finals
/noticias.info/ Marcus Allbäck has said that UEFA EURO 2008™ will be his last finals tournament with Sweden after announcing his move from FC København back to his first club, Örgryte IS.
Tournament swansong
Now 34, the well-travelled striker, who has scored 30 goals in 70 games for Sweden, said he would not be playing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals. "After UEFA EURO 2008™ I won't play at any more tournaments," he said. "If Lasse [Lars Lagerbäck] and Roland [Nilsson] still think I'm good enough to play for Sweden, I'll be happy to do so, but EURO 2008 is my last major tournament." Allbäck was in his country's squad at UEFA EURO 2000™ and UEFA EURO 2004™ as well as at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
First club
At the end of the 2007/08 Danish season, the forward will rejoin Örgryte where he first played between 1992 and 1997 and then again between 1998 and 2000. He has also represented teams in Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, England and Germany. Second-division Örgryte had competition for his signature from other Swedish sides, including IF Elfsborg, but Allbäck said: "There weren't any serious Swedish options. I love Örgryte and I've always said I would return one day, although I was hoping it would be in the Allsvenskan. I had offers from foreign clubs and it was touch and go, but the more I thought about it, the more I came to the conclusion that it was time to come home." notas_de_prensa_archivo
