CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Almunia delight at new Arsenal deal

/noticias.info/ Arsenal FC goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has signed a long-term extension to his contract with the London club.

'Very happy'
The 30-year-old Spaniard has replaced Jens Lehmann as the Gunners' first-choice custodian this season and made his 36th appearance of the campaign in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool FC in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. "I'm very happy," Almunia told the Arsenal website. "I have extended my contract and I hope to be here for a long, long time." The length of the deal has not been revealed.

All change
"I talked to my wife and said I did not want to go back to Spain to play," continued the former SD Eibar, RC Recreativo de Huelva and Albacete Balompié keeper. "Hopefully I can finish my career here. Football can change your life in one second. At the start of the season I was not playing. But football changed my life again and now I am one of the happiest men around."
