LIVERPOOL FC: KUYT TARGETS EURO HOT-STREAK
Dirk Kuyt is hoping he can maintain his knack of scoring important goals in Europe after his strike in the 1-1 draw at Arsenal took his tally to double figures for the season.
/noticias.info/ The Dutch forward, who also netted in a 2-0 win at home to Inter Milan in the previous round, now has 10 goals for the season and while he has struggled to make an impact on the Premier League goalscoring charts he is determined to continue his hot-streak in the Champions League.
"I have got 10 goals now this season, and more in Europe than the Premier League," he said.
"It has been a long time coming, but that is because of where I am playing at the moment.
"I am not a right-winger, I do it my own way, so maybe that is why I am scoring goals from that position.
"Last season I scored 13 in the league, and this season only three. And now I have got six in Europe so I can be really happy with that and I just want to keep going.
"I aim to continue like this so that I can be involved in really big games and achievements for the club."
Kuyt was involved in the main talking point of the first leg when Alex Hleb went down under his challenge in the penalty area.
"I think the penalty decision was right," he added. "I touched Hleb but I never pulled his shirt, so I don't think he deserved to get a penalty. It was close, to be fair, but not a penalty.
"I know the referee because I played in Holland a lot against him. When we played against Feyenoord in pre-season he was the referee as well. So I know him. He comes from close to where I grew up.
"It's wrong to say that he did me a favour because I know him. I had him a few times in Holland against me. He made a good decision and to be fair he knows Robin van Persie too."
The Reds striker is now looking forward to next Tuesday's quarter-final second-leg against the Gunners but points to Arsenal's victory over AC Milan in the San Siro as evidence that Liverpool still have a job to do.
"It will be really close, but that is why Champions League games are so special, you never know what is going to happen," he said.
"But we must not forget that AC Milan produced a great result at Arsenal, drawing 0-0. But they then lost 2-0 in the San Siro, so we have to be very aware of that.
"But we did what we set out to do. We had to make sure we were not beaten, and we had to score. So we are pleased with the first part of the job.
"We have the ability to win every game, and we are confident. But we know it will be tough, but 1-1 has to be a good start." notas_de_prensa_archivo
