LIVERPOOL FC: AURELIO: WE CAN GO ONE BETTER
Fabio Aurelio is hoping Liverpool can build upon their Champions League draw with Arsenal at the Emirates by picking up three points when the two sides meet in the Barclays Premier League this afternoon.
/noticias.info/ The Brazilian full-back admits that the Reds were delighted with the result they achieved in Europe on Wednesday but expects another huge test when the second part of the trilogy of games with the Gunners gets underway today.
"We will have to see what happens now. We know that we have just had a very good result against them but today is a different game," said Aurelio.
"Arsenal are looking to win the league and they need to get closer to Manchester United at the top so they will obviously be looking to take three points against us.
"They are the home team again so they have the advantage of having their own fans behind them but we have shown that we can get a result there are we will be trying to do the same again."
With the second-leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie just days away, few would be surprised if both sides opted to rest key personnel for the league fixture.
Aurelio admits that rotation could well be on the cards but is confident Liverpool have enough quality in their ranks to get a positive result, no matter who is involved.
He said: "We will have to wait to see what the boss is going to do because he will have to see which players are fresh enough to play again and he might decide to rest some players.
"Because the league game is right between the two Champions League games it might be that the team is slightly different but we will see.
"I think it is important that whoever is selected does their job though because we need the points ourselves.
"We had a very good win against Everton in the league last week and that gave us a five point advantage but there are still six games to go so points can be won and lost.
"We have to make sure that we get more points than the other teams around us because that will mean we will take fourth place.
"After today we can start thinking about the Champions League again but before then we must only concentrate on the Premier League, it is as simple as that.
"Liverpool are a great club and that means we always look for a win no matter who is in our team or what team we are playing.
"That is why the club has been so successful for so many years and it is an attitude which we cannot afford to lose.
"It will be different this weekend because it is rare that any two games are the same but we do know that it will be another tough game and we will need to do a similar job to the one we did on Wednesday night."
Aurelio enjoyed one of his best performances in a Liverpool shirt on Wednesday night and while he was pleased with his own display, he feels the work ethic of the entire team was the key to securing the 1-1 draw.
"We knew all about the way that Arsenal play," he said. "They are good passers and they look to move the ball very quickly.
"That meant we had to do a great job in defence to stop them from scoring more than one goal because after we equalised we knew that they would come at us, but we managed to keep them out. That is only possible because everyone was helping each other. It isn't just the defenders and the goalkeeper, it is also the midfield and the forwards because you cannot come to a place like Arsenal and get a good result unless everyone in the team is working together.
"The only disappointment for us was that maybe we could have done more on the counter attack but we are very happy with the result we got in the end."
Aurelio's Liverpool career to-date has been blighted by a series of frustrating injuries.
It is something that he feels has prevented the fans from seeing the real him, but having been heavily involved in the starting XI since the turn of the year, he is now looking forward to playing his part in one of the biggest games of our season on Tuesday night.
He said: "I'm really happy to be involved in these kind of games and I'm feeling really good physically. Now I'm just hoping to keep it going because it is good to be involved in the team during such an exciting run of games.
"For a player to be involved in these kind of games is really special and we now have another big night to look forward to when Arsenal come to Anfield.
"We will have our fans behind us there and as everyone in football knows that can make a huge difference. We are hoping to have another great night but first we must look to have a good day away at Arsenal." notas_de_prensa_archivo
