EVERTON FC: PADDY POWER'S GRAND NATIONAL PREVIEW

/noticias.info/ The greatest race in the world is finally here and I can’t wait until 4.15 when the tapes go up.

This year’s National could be unique because the locally trained Cloudy Lane has been so heavily backed in the run up to the race that he could end up going off a very short priced favourite.

Everybody loves a story at The National and punters have been quick to pick up on Cloudy Lane’s, whose trainer’s father is none other than Ginger McCain – Red Rum’s trainer.

I expect Cloudy to hover around the 5/1 mark today but my money is going elsewhere. In the Cloudy Lane frenzy everybody seems to be forgetting one little detail…this is the Grand National. There are 40 runners and 30 fences to be jumped for heavens sake! We could sit here all morning listing horses that have looked set to romp home down the years only to get taken out by a stray horse or falling unexpectedly.

It’s obviously a wide open race but whatever you do don’t forget about the Irish challenge, we’ve won the race 4 times in the last 5 years so ignore us at your peril.

Best of the Irish is probably Slim Pickings who finished third last year, and there are plenty of pointers to suggest he could improve on that this time round. But watch out for King Johns Castle who has been backed by plenty of shrewdies in the run up to the race and is nice each way value at 16/1.

Always think about having an each way bet in the National. The odds on the horses are very tasty, and on that note you’d be a fool not to insist on a bookie who is paying each way down to fifth place – funnily enough we at Paddy Power are doing just that!

Not only are we paying out on the first 5 home, we are also adding 10% to all winning bets…it’s the least you deserve if you back the winner!

I also have to give a mention to Bewleys Berry, who I could well see proving popular today. Perhaps not enough to take it’s odds into single figures but at around 12/1 this horse who likes the course is likely to see a few of Paddy’s pounds riding on it.

So there you have it. Three Irish horses who will come home for an Irish 1-2-3 at 20/1. But that, of course, is forgetting the outsider that none of us saw coming. There’s always one!
