EVERTON FC: DERBY DELIGHT FOR LADIES

/noticias.info/ Everton Ladies completed the double over Liverpool on Thursday evening with a 5-1 win.

The Blues retained the Merseyside bragging rights with a comprehensive victory at Skelmersdale United.

The Ladies move up to second place in the Premier League after a third consecutive league victory.

Liverpool raced out of the blocks as soon as the match kicked off, and after four minutes Jo Traynor opened the scoring for the Reds.

Everton restored parity five minutes later through Amy Kane and their lead was doubled 60 seconds later after Rachel Unitt’s shot took a wicked deflection off Traynor.

A superb strike from striker Jody Handley ensured the Blues went into half-time at 3-1.

Michelle Evans put the game beyond Liverpool midway through the second half before completing the rout in stoppage time after latching onto Unitt’s neat through ball.

Assistant manager Andy Spence was pleased with the performance but lamented falling behind to an early goal.

He told evertonfc.com: “It was disappointing to go a goal down early on but thereafter we totally dominated the game and thoroughly deserved the win.

“It’s pleasing to score five and the result keeps us in touching distance of Arsenal.”

The Ladies’ quest for pole position in the league continues on Sunday when Bristol Academy are the visitors to Marine, kick-off 2pm.
