FOOTBALL EUROPE: Inter restore buffer as Viola consolidate
/noticias.info/ FC Internazionale Milano regained their four-point advantage over AS Roma at the top of Serie A after a 2-0 success at Atalanta BC while ACF Fiorentina won at home.
Balotelli influence
Inter kicked off just one point ahead of Roma after the capital side won 3-2 against Genoa CFC on Saturday. However, the away side were sent on their way to three points when Patrick Vieira scored in the 21st minute, rising powerfully to head home Mario Balotelli's corner. The game was made safe with 16 minutes left when Balotelli ran on to Julio Cruz's flick and rounded goalkeeper Ferdinando Coppola before slotting in. Cristiano Doni was sent off in the last minute for the hosts. Third-placed Juventus lost 3-2 at US Città di Palermo as Mattia Cassani produced a last-minute winner after Alessandro Del Piero's second-half double had cancelled out a first-half pair from Amauri.
Reggina bottom
ACF Fiorentina drew four points clear of AC Milan in fourth – the last UEFA Champions League qualifying spot – with a 2-0 win over Reggina Calcio. Giampaolo Pazzini got the first midway through the opening half and Adrian Mutu (90) rounded off the win. That result leaves Reggina bottom after Empoli FC won 1-0 at Torino FC, Ighli Vannucchi scoring the winner in the 87th minute. Calcio Catania boosted their survival hopes with a 3-0 home win against SSC Napoli thanks to goals from Giuseppe Colucci, Gionatha Spinesi and Juan Vargas.
Entertaining draws
AS Livorno Calcio remain outside the bottom three on goal difference after second-half strikes from Christian Maggio and Emiliano Bonazzoli sent them to defeat at UC Sampdoria. Parma FC are better off by the single point that they gained in a 2-2 draw at home to S.S. Lazio, although they do still have a game in hand on the sides around them, while AC Siena and Udinese Calcio drew 1-1. notas_de_prensa_archivo
