CHELSEA FC :KALOU: THE HEAT IS ON UNITED
/noticias.info/ Mon, 7th Apr 2008
Salomon Kalou is looking forward to the final games of the season after his confidence-building goal against Saturday's opponents Manchester City.
The Ivorian, who played a big part in Chelsea's win in the City of Manchester Stadium with his second-half strike, believes the Blues now have a real chance to win the title after Manchester United's draw with Middlesbrough and Arsenal's draw with Liverpool.
'Saturday was a very important victory because we knew the result from Arsenal so it was important for us to get a good result and, most importantly, the three points,' said Kalou.
'It is important for me to score this kind of goal because it gives me a lot of confidence and helps me believe that I can do it.
'For me the most important thing is to learn and improve myself,' he added.
After a first-half own goal, reminiscent of the opener against Fenerbahçe last Wednesday, spurred Manchester City into action in search for an elusive equaliser, it was Kalou who killed the game off after side-stepping Joe Hart before chipping the ball into the back of the net.
'Those kind of games, when you play against teams who attack a lot, it is never enough to score one goal because in the last 10 minutes they could come back and score,' explained the 22-year-old.
'If it is not the best game we can play then we have to go for the victory.
'So it was very important for us to score the second and it is important to fight for the team because it puts Manchester United under pressure.
'There have been a lot of games since I scored,' he pointed out, his previous goal coming in the 6-1 hammering of Derby five games earlier, 'so it will help a lot with my confidence.'
With Chelsea now only three points behind Manchester United, we are continuing to claw our way towards a possible title, something Kalou feels is an achievable target.
'There are still games to go and there is always hope. We still have to play Manchester United at home, so we still believe in the title.
'But in the end we have to win every game before we meet United.'
Bookmakers Paddy Power now make Chelsea 5/2 to win the league title.
