CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Trophy Tour reaches Mexico finale

/noticias.info/ The UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour reached the final stage of a two-month tour of Latin America this weekend when the trophy went on display in Mexico City.

Prestigious trophy
The public were be able to see European club football's most prestigious prize at the Antara Mall in Mexico City on Saturday and Sunday as part of the Trophy Tour presented by Heineken, and thousands of people took the opportunity, with visitors coming from across Mexico. The silverware was the centrepiece of a display also featuring signed memorabilia, while among the football-related activities on offer was the chance for invitees to be photographed with the trophy. A huge media presence demonstrated the importance of the occasion.

Campos present
The UEFA Champions League trophy was paraded in Mexico City in the safe hands of Jorge Campos, one of the nation's idols, who played for Mexico on 130 occasions – 128 as a goalkeeper, and twice as a striker – and helped them win the FIFA Confederations Cup in 1999.

Hugely popular
UEFA marketing director Philippe Le Floc'h said: "The UEFA Champions League is hugely popular in Latin American countries and the chance to experience the famous trophy up close is an opportunity allowing local fans to share the magic of Europe's best club competition." The trophy has already been on show in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Santiago (Chile), and stays in Mexico for its final display, moving to Monterrey (12/13 April). notas_de_prensa_archivo
