FOOTBALL EUROPE: Verbeek set for 'fantastic' Feyenoord
/noticias.info/ Gertjan Verbeek will replace Bert van Marwijk as coach of Feyenoord this summer, with Norwegian Trond Sollied to fill the 45-year-old's post at SC Heerenveen.
Replacement named
With Van Marwijk taking over from Marco van Basten as Netherlands coach on 1 July, the Rotterdam club have named Verbeek as their new boss on a three-year contract. His position at Heerenveen will be filled by Sollied, 48, who lists Rosenborg BK, KAA Gent, Club Brugge KV and Olympiacos CFP among his former clubs.
Formative experience
Verbeek was excited about his new role, saying this morning: "In 1974 I went to De Kuip for the first time as a 12-year-old for a league game between Feyenoord and FC Twente. I was immediately impressed by the whole set-up. You never forget something like that. Every visit to De Kuip as a footballer was great. It's a fantastic prospect to be coming to work here as Feyenoord coach."
Level pegging
A defender for Heerenveen and Heracles Almelo, Verbeek was youth coach at Heerenveen and then assistant to Foppe de Haan from 1994 before taking his first senior job with Heracles in 2002. He won promotion, and replaced De Haan at Heerenveen in 2004, leading them into three successive UEFA Cup campaigns. Fifth-placed Heerenveen lead Feyenoord on goal difference in the Eredivisie with both clubs locked on 57 points with two matches to play. notas_de_prensa_archivo
