CHELSEA FC :GRANT: HAPPY WITH THE BLUES

/noticias.info/ Thu, 17th Apr 2008
Avram Grant says he is pleased with his players' achievements this season since his appointment back in September.

The first team coach/manager is impressed by the side's character and determination after clawing our way to second place in the league and reaching the Champions League semi-final.

'I am very proud of them [the players] and what they did this year,' said Grant.

'I think if you ask anybody, nobody thought we would achieve what we have achieved.

'I can only compare to the other three big clubs and the situation we were in when I took over the team, so from this point of view we have made good development in the Champions League and the Premier League and we want to finish the season well.

'But we need to consider what we need to do in our jobs. Me, personally, I am never happy, I want to be better and better and it will continue like this.'

Not only is the Blues manager happy with what the players have accomplished this season, he is also pleased with the way they have developed as footballers.

'What I am most happy with the players about this year is that they have gone our way, our way with tactics and everything and I think this way will give them a lot in the future.

'But I think we also need to think about the results.

'From day one I told the players that I would check how we lost games they we weren't supposed to lose and how we won games that nobody expected us to win.

'If they get a great win or a great achievement then people will say they are genius, or if not then they are not strong.

'So they need to be strong characters and I think we've showed that. We didn't have too many bad games this season or many bad days where we did not recover well. We did it well this year.'

With transfer speculation beginning to build as the end of the season draws near, Grant took the opportunity to explain his plans for this summer.

As we continue to strive to create stylish, attacking football, the 52-year-old feels he will only bring in the kind of players that can help the Blues attain our goal.

'We want some kind of football and if the player can be good for this then we want to take him.

'But the advantage in the last two or three years that all the big clubs in Europe didn't have money, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona, has finished.

'So the money is not the issue. Three years ago if you suggested big money then the player was yours.

'But, for example, I don't think Barcelona would give Messi for big money these days.

'But we need to do something, it was unlucky on Monday but the football we played in the second half is the football we want to play, with scoring goals of course.

'The way we played against Fenerbahçe and other clubs, we want to be more consistent with this.

'But this is difficult for any team, and of course any player that can help us with this, if there is a player that can help, then obviously we want to buy him,' finished Grant.
