GOLF: PGA EUROPEAN TOUR: KANG TAKES THE EARLY LEAD IN KOREA

/noticias.info/ Seoul, May 1: Korea’s Kang Ji-man blasted a steady five-under-par 67 to take the early opening round lead at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship on Thursday.

Kang, who turned professional in 1999, fired seven birdies against two bogeys for a narrow one stroke lead over amateur Song Tae-hoon who had an impressive start with a 68 in lone second spot at the Nam Seoul Country Club.

Korea’s Lee Jin-won and Park Sung-kook carded matching 69s in a tie for third place while Asian Tour’s Young Nam, Jun Tae-hyun and Kim Do-hoon III posted equal 70s in a battle for fifth spot.

Japan’s Yoshinobu Tsukada broke the Korean dominance in the leading fray when he recorded a 71 along Mitchell Brown of Australia as they were among those in joint eight position.

Starting on the back nine, the Seoul-based Kang was three under after nine holes before firing three more birdies against a lone dropped shot for the early lead in the US$600,000 event. notas_de_prensa_archivo
