EVERTON FC: ONE POINT TO GO
/noticias.info/ Everton are now just one point from guaranteeing a place in next season's Uefa Cup after Saturday's Premier League fixtures.
The Blues play their penultimate game of the campaign against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.
But Aston Villa's home defeat to Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon means Everton have moved a giant step nearer finishing the campaign in fifth place and the only Uefa Cup qualifying position in the league.
Everton are currently fifth, three points ahead of Villa who are in sixth place. That means the side need just one point from the six available to make it mathematically certain they will finish fifth after Martin O'Neill's men fell to a shock 2-0 reverse at the hands of Wigan. That result also means Wigan are now safe from relegation.
Everton's game at Arsenal is their final away fixture of the season before completing their fixtures against Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Sunday, May 11.
Saturday's other results also ensured it is now impossible for Arsenal to win the league this term.
Arsene Wenger's side had harboured faint hopes of sneaking in ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United, but the 4-1 victory for Sir Alex Ferguson's men over West Ham at Old Trafford means that only Chelsea can now prevent United winning back-to-back titles.
The Gunners can, however, still usurp Chelsea for second place - thus ensuring they avoid the Champions League qualifying round next term and go straight into the draw for the group stage, ensuring they still have something to play for against Everton. notas_de_prensa_archivo
