COE: South-Eastern Europe and common stability and security on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe
/noticias.info/ Strasbourg, 5.5.2008 – Over 30 Ministers for Foreign Affairs or Europe Ministers from Council of Europe member countries are due to meet in Strasbourg on Wednesday 7 May.
Under the chairmanship of Jan Kubis, Slovakian Minister for Foreign Affairs, the formal session will begin at 10 am on the theme of “The Council of Europe’s contribution to common stability and security”. Discussion will focus on the follow-up given to the Action Plan adopted at the Warsaw Summit, in particular:
- consolidation of the system of human rights protection,
- relations between the Council of Europe and the European Union,
- intercultural dialogue.
During an informal lunch, the ministers will discuss the situation in south-eastern Europe. The outgoing and incoming Chairs will each give a summary of the lunchtime discussions when the formal session resumes.
At the close of the session, Sweden will succeed Slovakia as Chair of the Committee of Ministers for the next six months. Jan Kubis, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, will take stock of his six-month chairmanship and Carl Bildt, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, will present the priorities of his country’s programme.
A press conference will be given by Jan Kubis, Slovakian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Carl Bildt, Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Secretary General Terry Davis at 4 pm (Room 1, Palais de l'Europe, 2nd floor).
