NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer travelled to Prague on Monday, 5 May 2008. During his stay in the Czech Republic, Mr. De Hoop Scheffer met with the Czech President, Vaclav Klaus.

/noticias.info/ He also met with Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg and Minister of Defence, Vlasta Parkanova, as well as with members of the parliament.

The Secretary General furthermore attended the international conference “Missile Defence after the Bucharest NATO Summit: European and American Perspectives” where he delivered a keynote speech.

“The threat of a ballistic missile attack touches at the very heart of NATO’s collective defence commitment. It touches, in other words, at the very core of our Alliance. That is why we must respond to this challenge – and why we must respond together,” NATO Secretary General de Hoop Scheffer said.

The conference was organized as part of plans to build a U.S. missile defence capability in the Czech Republic. notas_de_prensa_archivo
