IRAQ: Six wanted men captured, 11 more al-Qaeda suspects detained

/noticias.info/ BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces captured six wanted individuals and detained another 11 al-Qaeda in Iraq suspects during operations around the country targeting the terrorist network.

Coalition forces continued to target the AQI network in Mosul, where they captured three wanted men and detained six additional suspects. Information from an operation April 24 led Coalition forces to one of the wanted men, who is believed to be a bombing cell leader in the city. Another suspect allegedly operates the terrorist payroll system, and the third wanted man is believed to provide bed-down locations for AQI senior leaders.

Four operations targeted the AQI network in Baghdad and the Southern Belt. In two precision operations in the city, Coalition forces captured two alleged high-level terrorist liaisons. In two related operations, one in Baghdad and the other 100 miles to the north in Tikrit, Coalition forces detained three suspected terrorists allegedly tied to the Baghdad car-bombing network.

Coalition forces captured an alleged leader in another bombing network during an operation in Sharqat, about 50 miles south of Mosul. The wanted man and one additional suspected terrorist are believed to be involved in a group that conducts bombing attacks in Salah ad-Din province.

During an operation targeting the AQI foreign terrorist network, Coalition forces detained one suspected terrorist west of Balad, about 60 miles north of Baghdad.

“In operations like these, Iraqi and Coalition forces are chipping away at al-Qaeda in Iraq’s ability to wage indiscriminate violence against the people of Iraq. Such captures are helping to degrade the terrorists’ networks in the Mosul area and across Iraq,” said Cmdr. Scott Rye, MNF-I spokesman. notas_de_prensa_archivo
