ARSENAL: White and Sanderson notch for England

/noticias.info/ Eight of the Double-winning Arsenal Ladies side helped Hope Powell's England thrash Belarus on Thursday night, and keep the Three Lions on course for Euro 2009.

Faye White and Lianne Sanderson notched in the 6-1 victory, while Alex Scott, Anita Asante, Kelly Smith, Karen Carney and Rachel Yankey also started the match. Mary Phillip did not make it off the bench.

Many of the side left directly from Monday's FA Cup triumph at the City Ground to join up with the squad, but by Thursday they seemed suitably refreshed and ripped straight into their hosts. Everton's Jill Scott headed home inside a minute before team-mate Fara Williams hit the first of her three with a thumping free-kick six minutes later. Williams added a second and Sanderson made it four before the interval. They had, though, conceded.

The second-half was a much more relaxed affair, with the points virtually assured, but two more were added before the end. Williams scored from distance to complete a memorable night, and White heading home in stoppage time. notas_de_prensa_archivo
