CHELSEA FC: GRANT: THE RIGHT FOOTBALL AT THE RIGHT TIME
/noticias.info/ On Sunday at 3pm, all the talking will stop. Before then, Avram Grant has been asked views on his own team, on Bolton, on Wigan and on the Friday comments of Sir Alex Ferguson.
The destiny of the Barclays Premier League title will not be in Chelsea's hands if Manchester United justify their status as favourites to win away at Wigan - but nevertheless, Grant believes his side is in very good shape to face whatever the weekend brings.
In fact he goes as far as to agree Chelsea are playing the best football in the country.
'In the last month yes, there is no doubt about this, we have played some very good games,' he says. 'We have played the best football at the right time against the really big teams with big managers that you needed all the time to think what to do against them.
'It is very important when you come to the last two months to be fresh, mentally as well as physically, and when it comes to the last game, it is important to be strong mentally.'
The good physical state is reflected in a healthy injury situation. Ricardo Carvalho did not train today but his back problem is improving and will be reassessed tomorrow. Salomon Kalou is okay after an minor knee niggle.
'We have played good football in the most important games of the season,' he continued, 'and I am proud of this.
'To do what we have done this year is a great achievement. The Premier League is the most competitive league in the world so if you come first, second or even third it is very good.
'But when you come to the bridge, you want to go to the other side of the bridge and we will try to do our best on Sunday and on May 21st.'
That best means overcoming a Bolton side who have caused problems at Stamford Bridge with a win and two draws in their last four visits.
'First we have to think of our game against Bolton, it will not be an easy game. Second we will look around at what is happening at Wigan.
'Wigan played fantastic against us, they know they are in the spotlight and everyone over the world is watching, so I think they will do their best.'
Asked to comment on Ferguson's observation that Bolton's mindset is not being questioned while Wigan's is, Grant responded:
'We know Alex. I like him, I respect him but we know why he says things sometimes. But I don't think he knows what is happening in Bolton, unless he wants to be manager there.
'I think Bolton are safe but I think any team in England that comes to a game that is not important will still try to do their best.
'Whatever happens on Sunday, I will be very proud of what we have done this season. Alex said two or three months ago this is the best Man United side since he has been coaching and we have given them a battle.'
Bookmakers Paddy Power make Chelsea 7/2 to win the Barclays Premier League on Sunday. notas_de_prensa_archivo
