CHESLEA FC:THE FIRST TITLE TRAIL
/noticias.info/ Sun, 11th May 2008
Find yourself in the Chelsea dressing room before kick-off this afternoon and not own a past league championship winners' medal and you will be in a tiny minority.
Whether they are previous winners of the Premier League or other leagues abroad, it is a much-decorated squad that takes on Bolton with the chance of another title. Two of those few looking for a first league medal, Salomon Kalou and John Mikel Obi, have been speaking of their desire to join the majority.
'It would be a great day for us because we have never had the chance to share that with our team,' agrees Kalou, 'so it really is something we are dreaming about.
'We believe that we still have the chance,' he says on the possibility of overhauling Manchester United. 'We are going to see if we can make our dream work. It would make us full of confidence before the Champions League Final.'
Kalou explains just looking around the dressing room before any big challenge raises his hopes.
'You know your team-mates know the situation, they know how to win it. They have the confidence from the past and they bring that confidence to winning. As a young player you try to copy the experienced players,' says the 22-year-old.
Mikel, two years Kalou's junior, is keeping his feet on the ground over the chance of a first league win.
'It is unfortunate that we are in the situation where we have to wait for Man United not to win before we can win it. You never know but we have to rely on another club to go out there are perform, but there is nothing you can do about that.
'We can't wait to play in the Champions League Final but this Sunday, all we have to do is go out there and be professional, win the three points and see what happens.'
'It is great that we have come back to have the same points as Man U because nobody expected that from us,' adds Kalou, who at previous club Feyenoord witnessed challenges to PSV peter out long before the final day.
'We know we have the squad to win both trophies and I am not surprised to see our team in this situation.
'I have scored a couple of goals against Bolton,' he points out, recalling his winner at the Reebok in October and header in the home game last season. 'I hope that continues on Sunday.'
Bookmakers Paddy Power make Salomon Kalou 11/2 to score the first goal against Bolton and John Mikel Obi 25/1.
