CHELSEA FC:EURO UNDER 17S: KAKUTA PROGRESSES

Chelsea youth team top scorer Gaël Kakuta (pictured) will play in the semi-finals of the European Under 17 Championships after France's 2-0 group stage win over Switzerland.

Both French goals were scored by Lyon's Yannis Tafer, ensuring a second-place group finish, on the same points as Spain.

France will now take on host nation Turkey in the first of Tuesday's semi-finals, kick-off 4.30pm UK time. Spain play the Netherlands at 7pm.

The Republic of Ireland lost 3-1 to Spain in their final group game with Chelsea schoolboy Conor Clifford supplying the pass for Ireland to open the scoring. His side had already been eliminated after two earlier defeats.
