CHELSEA FC:AVRAM: WE WAIT
/noticias.info/ Sat, 10th May 2008
With the Premier League title going to the last day of the season for the first time in nine years tomorrow, Avram Grant believes he will not need to look far to find out what is going on at the JJB Stadium.
Earlier in the week, Petr Cech predicted that scores of fans would no doubt be tuning in to events in the north-west via pocket radios, and when asked whether he would be checking on the score coming from the Wigan v Manchester United game, Grant suggested that he may be able to tell quite quickly.
'I have a feeling that I will know the score from the fans, from the reaction of the fans, but everybody will watch the game in Wigan,' said the April Manager of the Month.
Indeed should we top the table at any stage on Sunday, the cheers echoing from Stamford Bridge will no doubt be audible for many miles. With such pressure on his shoulders, Grant denied that he would have any big day nerves.
'Before any game, even the most important games, I sleep well because I go to sleep knowing I am ready for any situation and anything is okay,' he explained, before admitting: 'Sometimes after the game, I don't sleep so good.'
He also briefly discussed the routines that accompany preparation for such games.
'It depends on the opponents - sometimes big games are easier, because the players are in high motivation,' he explained. 'From the bottom it is more difficult motivation, tactically it is different but not so much because we have our game and don't want to change so much.'
Tomorrow's game will be no different, despite the high stakes riding on it, and the possibility of losing out on goal difference, a rule the Israeli would like to see altered to match the Italian league, where a playoff is introduced for teams level-pegging.
'First, I have interest to say this now, but sometimes against the weakest teams you score more goals for this or this. When you have the same points it means you are on the same level,' he said.
'We won games 6-0, scored four goals, but when you miss so many players the first target is to win games,' he continued. 'I must admit sometimes Manchester United play very good football.
'They think this is the best season since Sir Alex Ferguson came and scored a lot of goals, but I must say I prefer the system in Italy.
'We won many games by more than one goal difference and play attractive football, but we cannot push a button and score more goals, so we wait for Sunday.'
