ANTI-RACISM TAKES CHELSEA TO DOWNING STREET
/noticias.info/ Peter Kenyon and Avram Grant met the Prime Minster, Gordon Brown at Downing Street to celebrate the achievements of tackling racism within the game and society.
Joe and Ashley Cole were also inducted into the Show Racism the Red Card Hall of Fame for their educational work, teaching children about the dangers of prejudice and discrimination. The two join luminaries such as Shaka Hislop, Thierry Henry, Warren Barton and Jermaine Jenas in being honoured.
Gordon Brown and his wife stopped to speak to the Chelsea manager at length and mingled with footballers including Sol Cambell and Anton Ferdinand at the event, hosted by Robbie Earle and Leroy Rosenior.
The Prime Minister thanked the industry for everything they had done in fighting racism and discrimination adding that the work football does 'makes us proud in every part of the world when we talk about sport in this country.'
Culture Secretary Andy Burnham who also attended the event said British football was now 'almost unrecognisable' in its attitude to racism compared to two decades ago.
'I genuinely believe that other sectors of society should look at football - look at the leadership, the commitment, the passion, the energy that people put into tackling racism within football, and learn from it,' he said.
'Because I think football has really shown that with drive from the top, you really can change attitudes within the game, but more than that, attitudes within society.
'Such is the power of football to communicate to young people.' notas_de_prensa_archivo
