EU: Opening of the May plenary session in Strasbourg: Minute of silence for victim of ETA, debate added on Roma in the EU
/noticias.info/ Parliament held a minute of silence in respect of the ETA assassination of member of the Spanish "Guardia Civil". Juan Manuel Pinuel-Villalon was murdered on Wednesday 14 May in a car bombing at the police barracks of Legutiano (Alava). European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pöttering said: "The European Parliament condemns this disgraceful act in the most determined terms.
I wish to express on behalf of the European Parliament our deep sadness and profound sympathy to their families and friends. I want also to express our solidarity with the Spanish people, their authorities and democratic institutions and to their security forces."
Change to the agenda
Parliament voted in favour of a proposal from the PES group (with 106 votes in favour, 100 against and 2 abstentions) to add a debate on Tuesday 20 May on the situation of the Roma in the European Union. (The debate will take place following the debate on road transport on Tuesday afternoon)
