GOLF: PGA: Morris Suffers Late Blow

/noticias.info/ Matt Morris' hopes of moving up the leaderboard and earning a bigger slice of the £3.6m BMW PGA Championship prize fund were dealt a blow with a quadruple bogey at the last.

The Midland player twice found the Wentworth trees to pay a heavy price and ruin an otherwise encouraging round display which had seen him bounce back from early bogies on the first and third to be level for the round on the 18th tee.

An eagle at the 552-year par 5 fourth hole and back to back birdies on 11 and 12 were the highlights of his third round but a bitterly disappointed Morris was left to rue the events of the last hole.

His tee shot landed in the trees on the right of the fairway but after taking a drop he stuffed the ball straight back into the bushes. Three putts on the slippery green compounded his misery as signed for a 76.

The Bromsgrove Golf Centre now stands at five over for the tournament but he wasn't the only one to suffer disappointment with rising prospect Ross Fisher shooting a miserable 80.

Luke Donald also got off to a bad start with successive bogies on one and two.
Retief Goosen and Paul Lawrie fared better among the early starters and got themselves to one under for the championship after rounds of 70.

Leader Paul McGinley tees off this afternoon with a four shot advantage over playing partner Robert Karlsson. notas_de_prensa_archivo
