LIVERPOOL FC: ON THIS DAY: JUNE 7, 1993
/noticias.info/ Graeme Souness signed Nigel Clough from Nottingham Forest for £2 million on this day in 1993.
The highly rated striker was seen by Souness as the ideal player to partner Ian Rush in the role that the likes of Kenny Dalglish, Paul Walsh and Peter Beardsley performed with great distinction.
Expectations increased when Clough scored twice on his debut in a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Anfield on the opening day of the 1993-94 season.
However the emergence of a certain Robbie Fowler was just around the corner and after his phenomenal scoring form for the reserves, Souness couldn't ignore him any longer and Clough was the man to make way.
However, the England striker will always be remembered by Liverpool supporters for scoring twice in that amazing 3-3 draw with Manchester United in January 1994. notas_de_prensa_archivo
