EVERTON FC: YOBO INTERVENTION
/noticias.info/ Joseph Yobo was an unlikely goal hero for Nigeria on Saturday.
The Blues defender found the net in the 89th minute of the World Cup/African Cup of nations qualifier against Sierra Leone in Freetown.
The 1-0 success gives the Super Eagles a 100% start from their opening brace of Group 4 fixtures following last week’s 2-0 triumph over Steven Pienaar’s South Africa.
Ayegbeni Yakubu also played for Nigeria but there was no action for Victor Anichebe.
Nigeria’s next qualifier is at home to Equatorial Guinea on June 15.
As for Pienaar, he helped South Africa to get back on track when he played 83 minutes of their comfortable 4-1 win against Equatorial Guinea in Pretoria.
Pienaar was replaced with seven minutes remaining by former Everton trialist Delron Buckley.
South Africa are now second in the group behind Nigeria and they play Sierra Leone next weekend.
Elsewhere there was a real World Cup shock for Tim Cahill’s Australia in Asian Group 1.
The Toffees midfield star is currently missing through injury of course and in his absence his international team-mates were humbled 1-0 by Iraq in Dubai.
The Aussies still top the group though, ahead of Qatar, Iraq and China. notas_de_prensa_archivo
