ARSENAL: Euro 2008: Lehmann makes a winning start
/noticias.info/ Germany 2-0 Poland
Sunday, June 8
Klagenfurt
Jens Lehmann helped Germany make a solid start to their Euro 2008 campaign with an assured performance in his country's 2-0 victory over Poland.
The tournament favourites were comfortable winners in Klagenfurt thanks to two goals from Polish-born Lukas Podolski. He slid home Miroslav Klose's pass from close range after 20 minutes and volleyed a second after Klose's miscued shot looped up invitingly with 18 minutes left.
Poland keeper Artur Boruc kept the score down, saving brilliantly from Germany captain Michael Ballack in the second half.
At the other end Lehmann was called into action with seven minutes left, pushing away a near-post header from Marek Saganowski following Roger Guerrero's cross. The departing Arsenal keeper also dealt well with a string of crosses into the box as Poland looked for a way back into the match.
Germany's next Group B fixture is against Croatia on Thursday. notas_de_prensa_archivo
