REDS QUARTET SET FOR RUSSIA TEST
Liverpool's Spanish contingent will get their Euro 2008 campaign underway tonight when Spain face Russia in their opening Group D encounter.
/noticias.info/ Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa will all be hoping to make an impact against Guus Hiddink's side at the Stadion Tivoli Neu in Innsbruck, although Torres is the only one likely to feature from the start.
El Nino struck 33 goals in a sensational debut season in England and will be hoping to put the disappointment of missing out on a Champions League final in Moscow with Liverpool, by firing Spain to an important victory against the Russians.
A first game success in Group D is something Torres' teammate Xabi Alonso believes is imperative if his country are to learn their lesson from previous camopaigns and ensure they book their place in the knockout stage sooner rather than later.
"I hope we get to the final, but that's a long way away and we need to concentrate on the first opponents," he said.
"We have to win the game against Russia because it's fundamental that we don't go into the last game with emergencies like in 2004.
"We need to do our job and not leave it all to the last game." notas_de_prensa_archivo
