DECO: CECH THE BEST
/noticias.info/ When Petr Cech emerges from the tunnel to face Portugal in Geneva on Wednesday, he will be doing so not just against club team-mates, but also fans.
Preparing for the game, which is likely to determine who tops Group A, Portuguese playmaker Deco has outlined his belief that Cech will be the major obstacle his country faces against the Czechs, who were unimpressive against Switzerland on Saturday.
'Petr Cech is probably the best goalkeeper in the world,' said the 30-year-old Barcelona midfielder, [but] obviously we will not underestimate the Czech Republic team. That
was not the case before and will not be the case now.'
Cech saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo in Moscow last month, and Deco insisted that he is prepared to step up, should the Manchester United winger be put off by the Chelsea man's presence.
'I think I am third in line (to take a penalty)... if it will fall to me I will take it,' he said.
Cech meanwhile has been discussing the Euro 2008 ball, which he believes is designed to bring about more goals.
'The new ball is really unpredictable. We will see lots of goals from 30 metres out,' he said.
'The TV commentators will again say "What was the goalkeeper doing there? He surely got his hand to it".
'But the balls are so quick, they have scarcely any wind resistance and they can change direction any second, also in the last five metres.
'It therefore won't help at all to see the ball coming from a distance.'
He will be hoping that the combined threat of Bosingwa, Paulo Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho don't threaten his goal too much on Wednesday, in a game he discussed in this month's edition of Chelsea magazine, out on Tuesday. notas_de_prensa_archivo
