Review: Louis Saha
At the dawn of 2007/08, as the acquisition of Carlos Tevez added another world-class forward to United's ranks, there was still some unease among pundits and fans that we didn't seem to have a pacey goal-poacher at our disposal.
/noticias.info/ The move suggested that we had given up on a certain quicksilver Frenchman ever being fit and firing on all cylinders for any length of time.
Yet wasn’t this the man who bagged 15 goals in 20 appearances in the second half of the 2005/06 season? The striker whose prolific goalscoring the following term helped make him the club’s top scorer at Christmas 2006? And one of the key contributors in helping United to the top of the Premier League and Champions League group tables?
It was indeed, but such have been Louis Saha’s troubles with injury that he hasn’t had a consistent run in the first team since December 06.
“The best word [to sum up his career at OT] might be ‘frustrating’,” he told United Review at the start of the year.
“This is the biggest club in the world and where I’ve always wanted to be. I began well but then picked up a few knocks and it was hard to get the run I'd hoped for.”
Nevertheless, there were chinks of light last season. Louis scored three times after coming off the bench, most notably when heading the only goal of the game against Sunderland in September, and then sealing the victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford with a late penalty.
Despite reports that Sir Alex was becoming frustrated with Saha’s progress, Louis commented in January: “The manager’s always shown a lot of faith in me… and that gives me a lot of confidence.”
He admitted: “I’m very hard on myself, so I’m not very satisfied with how the season has gone on a personal level. I know I can do better…” notas_de_prensa_archivo
