BEIJING 2008:Liu Qi: Olympic venue teams are key to success
/noticias.info/ During a visit to Olympic venues at Beijing's universities on Wednesday, BOCOG President Liu Qi stressed the importance of venue teams for the Beijing Olympic Games, saying that they would need to work hard to resolve any remaining problems with the Olympic venues.
Joined by Beijing Mayor Guo Jinlong and other officials from the Beijing Municipality and BOCOG, Liu toured Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium, which will host Olympic badminton and gymnastics events. Liu asked in detail how the venue will deal with possible wind movements and the impact of light on athletes. When visiting the China Agriculture University Gymnasium, Liu watched the training of victory ceremony staff for Olympic wrestling competitions. Liu and Guo were also updated on the operation of technical systems and venue teams for Olympic judo and taekwondo events at the University of Science and Technology Beijing Gymnasium, urging that the best possible services be provided to Olympic broadcasters. Later in the day they watched a cheerleading team train.
In his remarks to the staff of the venues, Liu, who is secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, said that, as hosts of eight Olympic sports and six Paralympic sports, the universities shoulder a heavy responsibility in preparing for and hosting the Summer Games. It is the venue teams that determine the results of the preparatory work, he said. "We need to clarify responsibilities, rights and resources of each team and enhance their unity and competence," he added.
He also urged more financial support to the universities to ensure that Olympic venues will be constructed and renovating at the highest standard and that security and venue teams will operate efficiently. Mayor Guo emphasized the seamless cooperation between the local governments where the venues are located, the universities and the venue teams in resolving technical problems encountered during the Olympic Games. The remaining problems regarding the construction of the venues should be solved as soon as possible, and the local governments should help universities beef up security, he added. notas_de_prensa_archivo
