First-half goals from Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch and Luis Garcia, in a frenzied 12-minute spell, fired the Reds to well-deserved three points against a previously unbeaten Villa side.

Kuyt was in great form and he opened the scoring just after the hour mark with unstoppable right footed drive into the bottom corner of the net. Fittingly, his father, who underwent life-saving surgery to cure cancer just three weeks previously, was in the stands to see it.

Crouch added a brilliant second goal before Luis Garcia rounded off a superb team move to make it 3-0.

The Anfield crowd were loving the football Rafael Benitez's side were producing and Luis Garcia was at the heart of it.

Gabriel Agbonlahor pulled a goal back for Villa in the second half but in truth Liverpool could have increased their margin.
