US ELECTIONS 08: DNC:McCain Myth Buster: John McCain and Iraq

/noticias.info/ John McCain claims he has a plan for Iraq and that "[w]hen Iraqi forces can safeguard their own country, American troops can return home." But the reality is, Senator McCain doesn't have a plan to bring our troops home from Iraq--he doesn't even think it's important to have one. Yesterday when asked on the Today Show if he had an idea of when troops in Iraq could come home, John McCain said "No, but that's not too important." [johnmccain.com, accessed 6/11/08; NBC's Today Show, 6/11/08]

The American people would beg to differ. With American troops putting their lives on the line everyday and American taxpayers spending billions of dollars a month on this war, voters want a president with a plan to end the war responsibly, something Senator McCain has yet to offer. It's clear that John McCain is out of touch and not the strong leader we need.

McCain Says Bringing Our Troops Home From Iraq "Not Too Important." Asked on the Today Show this morning if he has "a better estimate of when American forces can come home from Iraq," John McCain said "No, but that's not too important." [NBC's Today Show, 6/11/08]

After casting himself as a "Maverick" in 2000, the new John McCain is walking in lockstep with President Bush, pandering to the right wing of the Republican Party, and embracing the ideology he once denounced. On the campaign trail McCain has callously abandoned many of his previously held positions, even contradicted himself, in a blatant attempt to remake himself into a candidate Republicans can accept in 2008. So just who is the real John McCain? The Democratic National Committee will present a daily fact aimed at exposing the man behind the myth.
