UEFA EURO 2008: MELLBERG WARNS OF EL NINO THREAT
Olof Mellberg has admitted he is wary of the threat posed by Fernando Torres as Sweden prepare for their crucial Group D clash with Spain tonight.
/noticias.info/ The former Aston Villa defender believes the Liverpool striker is one of the hottest prospects in world football at the moment and feels his teammates will have to keep him quiet if they are to nullify the Spanish threat.
"Spain are really good from set pieces - they have lots of players who can score from free-kicks and crosses," he said.
"Fernando Torres is a world class striker and you can't give him any time on the ball. A lot of people think Spain can win Euro 2008."
Having spent seven years at Villa Park prior to his move to Juventus this summer, Mellberg is already familiar with the quartet of Liverpool players he could come up against in the Spain line-up.
However, he does not feel his knowledge of their game will have any impact on what transpires at the Stadion Tivoli Neu in Innsbruck tonight.
"I played against Reina, Alonso and Torres in the Premier League last season, but I think they will play differently when we meet at Euro 2008. International football is very different to club football, so I think Spain will play a very different style of football to Liverpool." notas_de_prensa_archivo
