IRAQ: AQI Bombing Networks disabled (Baqubah, Tikrit)
/noticias.info/ BAGHDAD – Coalition forces detained 33 suspected terrorists Saturday and Sunday during operations targeting al-Qaeda‘s terrorism and facilitation networks around Iraq.
A precision operation in Baghdad Saturday netted a man believed to participate in attacks against Coalition and Iraqi security forces. He is also wanted for his ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders and car-bombing cells. During a Sunday operation west of Baghdad, Coalition forces detained two additional AQI suspects.
About 160 kilometers north of Baghdad, Coalition forces detained three wanted men and six additional suspected terrorists during two operations Sunday in Tikrit. Information from an operation June 3 led Coalition forces to one of the wanted men, who identified himself to the force and was subsequently detained. In addition to his ties to the bombing network in Tikrit, the man is believed to be tied to AQI bombing networks in Baghdad. Another wanted man is a suspected financier for an AQI car-bombing group in Tikrit.
In Baqubah, about 55 kilometers north of Baghdad, Coalition forces targeted an AQI bombing cell known to use cars and houses to conceal their explosives. Three suspected terrorists were detained.
Coalition forces continued to pressure AQI’s foreign terrorist facilitation network and detained 18 suspects during operations in northern Iraq.
“Financiers of terrorism are terrorists and they will not be allowed to disrupt the lives of innocent Iraqis,” said Maj. John Hall, MNF-I spokesman. notas_de_prensa_archivo
