IRAQ: Iraqi Army Soldiers seize munitions in Sadr City

/noticias.info/ BAGHDAD – Iraqi Army Soldiers from the 3rd Brigade, 1st Iraqi Army Division, seized a munitions cache while conducting search operations in Sadr City June 14.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the Iraqi Army Soldiers discovered an 82 mm mortar base, two 60 mm mortar rounds, four improvised explosive device initiation devices, three 40 mm mortar round fillings and nine hand grenades.

At approximately the same time in another Sadr City neighborhood, Iraqi Soldiers from the same division found another cache that contained 38 AK-47 assault rifles and 10 sniper rifles.

All the weapons were collected and taken to the 3rd IA Bde.,headquarters.

“Each weapon the Iraqi Army Soldiers take off the street is one less that can be used to harm the citizens of Baghdad,” said Col. Allen Batschelet, chief of staff, Multi-National Division – Baghdad and the 4th Infantry Division spokesman. “The Iraqi Security Forces remain vigilant in safeguarding the Iraqi populace.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
