ARSENAL: Euro 2008: Senderos finishes on a high note
/noticias.info/ Switzerland 2-0 Portugal
Sunday, June 15
Basle
Switzerland bowed out of Euro 2008 on a high after an impressive 2-0 win over Group A table-toppers Portugal. Philippe Senderos was a rock in the heart of the Swiss defence throughout the match.
Hakan Yakin bagged both goals for the departing hosts in the final 20 minutes, as a much-changed Portugal faded after showing some early promise. Ricardo Quaresma and Nani were typically dazzling with latter striking the outside of the upright when the scores were still level.
And on 71 minutes Luis Felipe Scolari’s men were made to rue their profligacy. Yakin latched onto a deft through ball before executing the coolest of finishes through the legs of the keeper, Ricardo. The Swiss striker then hammered home from the penalty spot after Fernando Meira fouled substitute Tranquillo Barnetta seven minutes from time.
Arsenal's other Swiss representative, Johan Djourou, did not feature. notas_de_prensa_archivo
