/noticias.info/ The European Commission has announced today that Jan Høst Schmidt will be the new Head of Representation in Denmark.
Representations are the official voice of the European Commission in the Member States. They are responsible for explaining policies of the European Union and making Europe more understandable to people.
They provide information about the EU through recognised outlets such as public libraries, business advice centres and education services.
Their responsibilities also include providing information to the Commission on orientations and trends of public opinion in the country concerned.
Jan Høst Schmidt is an experienced, senior Commission official who joined the Commission in July 1989 as the Deputy Head of Cabinet to Vice President Henning Christophersen.
Mr Schmidt was from 1995 until 2007 a key official in the Commission's DG ECFIN (Economic and Financial Affairs) where as Director for Structural Reforms and Lisbon Strategy and Economic Evaluation, he oversaw the surveillance of structural reforms in labour and product markets, making an important contribution to the Commission's Growth and Jobs strategy. He held other senior positions in DG ECFIN including that of Member of the Commission's horizontal Impact Assessment Board from 2006 to 2008, which oversees the quality and consistency of all Commission proposals.
Before joining the Commission, Jan Høst Schmidt was a Special Adviser in the Danish Ministry of Finance and had spent some of his career in the Danish Embassy in Paris. He graduated in political science from the University of Arhus in 1977. notas_de_prensa_archivo
